Low birth weight babies!
If your obstetrician has a suspicion of less growth of baby , they will prescribe you for obstetric sonography with doppler, earlier which will be diagnostic as it determines blood flow to fetus _ adequate /decreased.
IUGR is a common cause of low birth weight babies , also preterm birth.
You will be surprised to know that there are tests which can predict whether your baby will have adequate weight at birth .
There are blood tests starting at 12 weeks alongwith sonography and doppler in 3rd, 5th, 7th and some times 8th month.
We can avoid some complications in mothers and predict as well as take preventive measures to avoid the occurence of LBW babies.
So, don’t worry if your obstetrician asks for more frequent sonographies as they are required for confirmation of diagnosis as well as further management of these babies is dependant on doppler.
